I think Coinbase is ridiculously overvalued and I want to bet against it. If it joins S&P500 though it would be ideal to do it after the fact.
Arguments for inclusion:
-it has a big market cap, 50B places it comfortably in the top half of the index on that metric
-it is now profitable and has a reliable revenue stream
Arguments against:
-it's fully dependent on market for magic tokens and thus very speculative
-there is significant regulatory risk for the whole cryptocurrency sector although it seems to be winning the battle for now
The arguments against are based on a value calls. Does S&P committee have history of making such value calls? If not it seems to be very likely to happen. What do you think? Any arguments to think they omit it?
