CMV: It doesn’t REALLY look like we are in a recession yet


Arguments for we're in a recession:

  • Two consecutive quarters GDP decline. Stock indices down 20%

Arguments against:

  • Unemployment all time low, jobs still being added, labor shortage.

  • Big(tech) market moving companies' ER were fine, not great not terrible

  • Anecodtal: Can still see “We're hiring” signs all around. All the hotels are full. All the Airbnbs, VRBOs full. Restaurants are packed. Airports in chaos with tons of people flying. No car rentals. Even the casinos are doing well i.e consumer spending strong.

It looks like we may be in a slump from all the crazy insane expansion in 2020-2021 but it sure doesn't look like an actual recession to me yet.

Am I missing something obvious?
