Can someone explain in simple terms, what is a stock grant/gift grant when given to me by my work?

I was told at my annual review last week that I was nominated for a special “stock gift grant” of $3650. I haven’t received any information about it yet but my manager mentioned something about it being vested at three years something something something. Most of what he said went over my head but when I google this the answers are a little confusing and inconsistent. Anyone have an idea of what this is? I can’t tell if it’s stock or just a fancy name for a bonus.
