Can someone explain exactly how AI services will be changing the world in a meaningful way?

So far, things like chat gpt seem like just very advanced search assistants. The idea that everything around us will have meaningful AI built in seems very lofty. This feels a big opportunity for scams to take place.

I own a lot of Microsoft shares, but they are much more than an AI company. I would like to buy Nividia shares for long term holding, but I'm still not feeling the practicality of AI as a whole. It still seems like a novelty, similiar to VR technology.
