It’s pretty apparent that due to many factors like the internet, common knowledge, etc. that the average investor has sort of been indoctrinated to believe in just buying VTI and never selling. Or that when the markets crashing that they should start buying, which maybe has led to this crazy overvalued market? It seems like people have sort of been educated to just do this without thinking and on a mass scale.
Is there any potential that this sort of behavior in society could lead to negative consequences? If everyone and their mother just throws their retirement into VTI for the next 30 years? Or are the risks still pretty minimal? I am someone who does this strategy but just curious what the other argument is
