Ask and Bid size are smaller then expected?

Hi, so I use TD Ameritrade’s mobile app and they have some buy/sell buttons with active counters for the Ask and Bid sizes. What I’m unsure of is why the numbers are always so low? I would think something like VTI at it’s current price would have more then 7 – 15 ask or bids at one time. Am I wrong or could the numbers be multiplied by 100 or anything similar?
