Are penny stocks a good way to learn?

Not really interested in getting too deep into stonks world, but I'm interested in learning how to invest in the marketplace and create a portfolio that will help me increase my savings. I figure if I can regularly invest in penny stocks (I spend money conservatively most of the time, so I'm looking at this as a very slow learning curve sort of thing), I would be allowing myself the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the market in general.

Are they volatile or more chaotic, as a category, than higher paying stocks? Should I not distinguish between them, and just look generally for investments, or try and learn on small payouts for the purpose of getting experience? Thank you
