It has been reported that Apple Pay and Google Pay are no longer working for Russians as they attempt to use Moscow’s metro system.
This news comes as Western nations agreed to block some Russian banks from the Swift international payment system, as well as the restriction of Russia’s ability to use its foreign currency reserves.
Russians have flocked to ATMs throughout the last few days as economic sanctions placed on Russia by the west begin to take effect. There have been reports on social media that ATMs are now beginning to run out of money, resulting in long queues of Russians attempting to withdraw cash.
In the midst of the impact the sanctions placed on Russia by the west have created, Moscow’s department of public transport warned residents of the city that problems may be experienced when attempting to pay fares via Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
