Apple (AAPL.US) has told some of its contract manufacturers that it wants to increase production outside of China. India and Vietnam, already home to a small portion of Apple's global production, are also on Apple's shortlist to replace China.
More than 90% of Apple products are manufactured in China by external contractors, such as iPhone, iPad, MacBook, etc. Apple CEO Tim Cook was asked about Apple's supply chain and said: “Our supply chain is really global, so products are everywhere, and we will continue to think about optimizing the supply chain.”
Apple announced in April this year that it would start producing the latest iPhone 13 series at Hon Hai’s Chennai factory in India. Under this production plan, all of Apple's best-selling models are now produced in India through Hon Hai and Wistron.
