Any good ETFs to buy and hold long term which supplement S&P 500 well?

I've heard many times, including from literature from Warren Buffet that few investors can ever beat the returns from simply buying and holding the S&P 500. So for people who don't have the time or skill to choose stocks, it seems just buying and holding the S&P 500 is a foolproof good way to go.

However the question of diversity comes into play. Are there any good ETFs out there which have a long history or performing similar to the S&P 500, but are composed of different stocks? Ones which should be safe to just buy and hold for 5-50 years?
