Agency REITs are protected by fannie mae, freddie mac. But how much in total they can protect ?

In the US, Total mortgage debt, Q2 2023 is $12.01 trillion
even 1% defaults would be such a huge number. Do Fannie Freddie have that much $ ? how can they guarantee $12.1 trillion of debt/loan ?
