AAPL and the Economy

This is a bit of a cheat code / hack if you want to understand the global macroeconomic stuff a bit better. If you want to simplify it all just set Google alerts for Apple and read them every day

If you do that you get:
– Insight into global demand,
– supply chains,
– shipping,
– consumer strength and spending, especially in the consumers that matter (higher value consumers where all the profits are)
– geopolitical insight (labor relations in China, tariffs)
– hiring trends / firing trends
– R&D insight (one of the largest balance sheets in the world so will spend trying to get ahead of future demand)

Take todays earnings for example:
– reporting weak demand in basically every geography – important because consumer spending accounts for about 70% of the American economy.
– reading between the lines seems like they had enough stock, so it wasn’t a supply issue but a demand one.

All the big economic indicators like GDP and inflation are a bit more delayed. Numbers and insight from a company like this can give you a bit of a preview, before those slower indicators are published.
