A company just announced their quarterly earnings and they stating that investors have directly registered 71.3 million shares. This really peaked my interest because I haven't seen any new source or official media company discuss or describe what direct registration of shares means. Why is this figure so important that it appears in a quarterly earnings, but not so important that this same information isn't relayed across investing media?
Also, 71.3 million shares? Directly registered? That seems like a lot for something that is not routinely discussed in the mainstream investing media.
