New day, new self-help thread.
People panic-selling, panic-buying, averaging down, liquidating, talking about “the crash isn't even here yet.”
Nobody knows. Nobody. And honestly, if you're retiring, you need to talk to a financial advisor.
The rest of you are <35 and got your asses beat. Now you're gonna try to win it all back with a few, good options calls...
Just fucking stop. You don't have to buy or sell anything. You literally don't. You don't have to liquidate; you don't have to gamble with options to get it all back. (Have you honestly never seen a movie about gambling addiction?)
You wanna make money? Stop trying to make money. Leave your stocks the fuck alone. Walk away till September. Check back in. If shit's still down, walk away till next February.
I've lost $460k since November. A quarter of my portfolio. I invested in good stocks. They're still good stocks. But markets get rough some years. Recessions hurt. But I'll make that money back and then some. Happens every time. And if it doesn't this time, money won't be the big issue: land and agriculture and water will, and that's just a beast you cannot fathom enough to plan for adequately, honestly.
So don't plan for that. Plan on making your money back later. And that means: don't sell now. Buy if you can, but you don't have to. Walk the fuck away and let other people worry.
