Seeing books about technical analysis, reading stock charts, and many other smiling topics makes me not want to pick up a single book. This is because i feel like these things matter less than they ever have. Am i inexperienced to think this, or is it something that has changed about financial markets in 10, 5, or even 1 year?
Technical analysis and fundamental analysis are the 2 biggest examples i can provide for this argument. when many companies go off of ‘general vibes’ or having the prices ‘baked in’ for macroeconomic news that hasn’t happened yet, it feels impossible to have any idea which direction most companies are headed. Of course we can look at markets or sectors as a whole, but to me that seems about the best type of analysis that can be done for companies.
I had some success and i’ve had some failure with stocks and options thus far, but the vast majority of outcomes of my positions felt random or lucky to some degree, even with analysis being done. of course most stock movements require some degree of luck in the first place, but it could have moved any direction and been expected with the state of markets today.
Feedback is much appreciated! Tell me i’m wrong!
