What about sell in May?

I feel like many new traders like myself were new to the markets last year. There were so many posts about sell in May and some saying like sell in May or go away May or something like that, and it all coincides with last May when there was a drop and everyone on Reddit was saying it's cause that's just what happens in May. I got the impression that the new investors didn't know about it cause they were new so wouldn't be able to know if this was actually a regular thing or not.

So I guess my question is, if this is true for May then don't we all expect the market to keep dropping from now on and into May? Like why all the posts asking if we are at the bottom and going back up yet or asking if such and such is at its low and should buy some? Like if that's true isn't everything going to keep dropping til after May? I know we can't KNOW what's going to happen so I guess I'm just asking about what the older more experienced people who have been in the markets for longer than us newbies, what do y'all think about this?

Can we expect the same May sell off next month? Can we expect the market to keep dropping?
