Disney's Doctor Strange in the multiverse of Madness has been banned from theaters in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The ban is apparently related to the presence of a gay character in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster. According to the report, films that feature LGBTQ+ references are oftentimes censored or outright banned in many countries in the Persian Gulf because homosexuality is illegal there.
Marvel, which is owned by Disney had a similar problem with its 2021 “Eternals” film; it was banned across the Persian Gulf for its portrayal of a same-gender couple and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first openly gay superhero
