AAII has been running a weekly investor sentiment survey since 1987. In yesterday's survey, bullish sentiment was at 15.8%. Some key takeaways:
- This is the 9th time since 1987 that bullish sentiment has dropped below 16%
- Bullish sentiment has not been this low since September 4th, 1992 making this basically a 30 year low
- The lowest EVER was on November 16th, 1990 at 12%, so we're just 3.8% higher today
- From February to April 2020, when the market was at peak fear of COVID, bullish sentiment never dropped below 30%
- During February 2022, when the market was at peak fear over Russia-Ukraine, bullish sentiment hit a low of 19.3% on February 17th, 2022
- During the bear market of 2018, bullish sentiment hit a low of 20.9%
- The spread between bullish sentiment and bearish sentiment is over 32%, which has happened just 26 times since 1987
- On March 30th, 2022, just two weeks ago, bullish sentiment was at 31.9%
Just some interesting food for thought. Everyone's beared up!
