[Purchase Cost – (Dividends + Sales of Same Stock) ] / Shares = ?

Not quite sure what this metric measures, but I was wondering. Let's say I have 100 shares of stock Z. Total purchase amount for all shares currently owned is $10,000. Total dividends received is $1,000. Total sales proceeds is $8,000 (let's say I bought and sold the same stock, taking advantage of cyclical changes). Adding that up, I've spent $10,000 and received $9000 (or $1000) for these 100 shares. Does that mean the new cost basis is $10 per share? I don't think that's the true cost basis, but I can't seem to find the correct term for what I'm calculating.

Any help?

Thanks!
