Is it legal for a publicly traded company to borrow money against their own stock?

Is it legal for a publicly traded company to use their own stock as a collateral when borrowing money, based on the current stock price? And if so, would it be possible for such company to go bankrupt if it's stock goes down enough and they can't meet their margin call? Are there any examples of such companies?
