Question about selling a naked call contract

Let’s say I’m certain Nvidia won’t go to $1,230 a share by may 31st. Why can’t i theoretically sell 1230 call option without owning any shares even tho id almost 100% make profit. Yes I’d be so screwed if it did hit that number but is the risk just that no one would even buy the contract I sell ? And yes Ik this is super dumb
