What’s a good, quick way to check whether investors believe that the stock market is relatively risky?

I'm young so I have all my money invested in stocks. I'd like to check every so often whether or not the people believe that a crash might happen soon, since a crash would mean I'd have to change my life plans. I'm less looking to time the market, more looking for peace of mind.

What's a good, easy to google metric that indicates wether investors as a whole believe the market is relatively risky?

I thought that the VIX would be the best metric for this, however this thread has given me doubts. The relative price of safe assets (e.g. gold) seems like another good indicator, is that the best way to go?
