Investing in the stock market. When and where?

So as the title says, this post has to do with investing in the stock market. I am a 25(M) which just started exploring investing through etoro's digital simulator (6 months already). I have played around and got to know some of the companies, how they perform, how news affect their stock price, how ETF and indices work or commodities etc.
I plan to invest for the future not trading, and I just started with real money this week (1000 dollars) and I noticed that suddenly my digital portofolio with fake money, suddenly went through the roof. I used to be -5000 dollars and now that is start of December and Christmas is around the corner, I'm 1800 dollars +. My question is, when investing in anything, do I have to wait for a stock or generally the market to go down first, or should I play along and invest even if the stock is at its highest right now?
My point is let's say a Tesla share is worth 240, wouldn't it be better to wait for it to go down to maybe at 210 for whatever reason and then put the money in (especially if I trust a company that it will recover in the future and make me money)?

Sorry for the long post and thank you for any answers.
