Here’s my understanding, please correct me if I’m wrong:
- Bad – Neon shortage is a problem because a large proportion of industrial-grade neon is produced by Russia and Ukraine.
- Good / neutral – However, China is also a major producer of neon so we need not worry about the shortage of neon -> halt production in chips -> bringing modern world to a halt as there will be no production of any equipment that requires chips (TV, fans, phones, cars, computers, printers, medical equipments, etc). Politics may result in some bargaining and this may help resolve some of the shortage
- Bad – TSMC only has 6 months of neon supply, thereafter we can expect the world to feel the impact of chip shortage due to lack of material (this is different from the ongoing shortage due to production capability, which can be addressed with time and building more plants. This shortage will cause more severe impact.)
- Bad – AMD is a major client so it will be affected too since it cannot produce irs own chips.
- Overall – China will be a crucial factor in determining how bad the shortage of industrial-grade neon will be for the modern world
