Make the console, have game developers make the games. Make the console and the games, more risk and a lot more can go wrong imo. Activision has just one real big franchise, many of their big names are now washed out PS2 classics which newer generations have no clue about or care about.
Activision bought Blizzard for $19 billion, which is now owned by MSFT. Buying Blizzard is imo one of the worst dead weights could've picked up, worse than the negative sentiment towards Paypal right now.
Blizzcon brought no new news. Phil Spender, Xbox CEO, came on stage and audience was dead silent. Everyone speaking on stage practically begging for a clap for an hour and a half. There were no new games announced. No real new games in the works. Blizzard is in its last bend, milking its old franchises much as possible and actual fanbase is so sick of it.
WoW isn't making a comeback, they just committed to 3 expansions like seriously bad call. Everyone wanted a WoW 2, Starcraft 3, Warcraft 4, literally any new game project. Don't even have faith they could even get it right if they tried, or we would've received something of the sorts years ago.
Kids these days do not even want these games anyways. I would love a WoW 2, another Starcraft or Warcraft RTS game. However, the younger playerbase or the majority don't give a f about RTS games or grew up with them in first place. The Warcraft universe and its lore is not the same engaging fantasy anymore it's like Fast and Furious first movie compared to the last. Original magic's gone.
Whatever games Blizzard can work up now, they will be popular upon release and fall off quickly like past decade. Whatever games we think we want, won't actually connect with the younger playerbase. Their only saving grace here is new game that's riveting, wholly unique and complete mix-up.
This was a horrible acquisition and it'll only show in-time. It's the equivalent to Disney buying Star Wars, look at the fanbase sentiment there. Look at Disney's stock price. Very exciting at first, wasn't a ship they could steer though. I imagine many games, similar to Disney's many shows and complete dilution of whatever remaining franchises activision has. Call of Duty will continue to succeed though.
MSFT paid for dying franchises and old tech for many of these franchises they just acquired imo. It was easy to buy Activision because it's the biggest game developer but really deep down it wasn't a good call to pick up their existing issues which imo MSFT will flounder with.
