If a company gets delisted and I never realize my losses, what happens?

Sorry for the noob question. Just wondering. I'm one of the bag holders from the TTOO debacle, and the amount that I threw in was very low ($800) because I was specifically wanting to learn about high volume penny stocks and experience the volatility firsthand. Anyway, it was money I knew I was gambling away and I'm not mad or anything.

I'm actually just thinking about this situation now because I've never thought it before: this company is probably going to be delisted (which is funny because the whole point of the reverse split was allegedly to avoid delisting in the first place) and I'm wondering if I have to realize my loss now, if they continue to tank as they are? Or at delisting is there some formality in place that makes the realization happen on its own?

I'm still relatively new to trading. Got into it like many others during the lockdown, and I've actually done pretty well swing trading, and I even held a few long for a while too, with nice profits. It's all just been for learning purposes.
