Putting “macroeconomics, the entire market could crash” aside, what is a significant, typically unspoken risk of index funds?
My gut tells me there is some sort of risk greater than the fees plus macroeconomic/total market events.
Bonus: Our government, central bankers, and economists all love to tell us that inflation is good. It encourages people to not sit on their earnings and instead take risks and invest them. If everyone is investing in index funds and they assure greater returns that significantly offset inflation plus taxation, how does that really work? Extrapolate that over time. Inevitably we all get rich, right?/s (If we're all rich then none of us are rich, likewise, if we all gain, none of us gain.)
