I'm used to seeing low single digit EPS (earnings per share) releases for companies. For example, MSFT recently released earnings of $2.45 per share.
However, “S&P 500 earnings per share (EPS) estimates for 2023 have declined from a peak of $251 in May 2022 (which represented a 10% year-over-year growth rate), to the current estimate of $221 (a 1% year-over-year growth rate).” https://www.bnymellonwealth.com/insights/forecasting-earnings-in-a-complicated-macro-backdrop.html
I've also heard other analysts mention EPS in the hundreds. What is different about their calculation vs. the traditional single digit type of numbers you see released by companies?
