My girlfriend grew up in a very different family than I have and none of them are familiar with investing or even understand how accessible and life-changing it can be.
I convinced her to let me set up an account with automatic recurring investments every time she gets paid. Nothing crazy. VOO, QQQ, VTI, SCHD. Some of those seem a little redundant but the point was to just pick a few broad indexes she could invest in forever without ever having to think about it. She refused to believe things could be that easy.
Here we are about a year later and her account is down 3% and I look like an idiot. I've explained this is not a short-term strategy and it takes time to truly see the results, but learning to trust that is a challenge for her.
Anyways just wanted to share and say what an awful year this has been to try and prove a point lmao.
Anybody have similar stories or words to say to my first-year investor girlfriend? Even better, anyone have ideas to tweak the current portfolio and still stay pretty moderate and safe? Please share!
