Possibly a newb question. I’m considering selling all of my position in a stock now that it’s recovered enough for me to accept a “small” loss, then immediately short sell on top of it as I expect the price to go straight back down.
I assume the short sell part itself won’t trigger any kind of wash sale as I have no positions left.
If I buy to cover within 30 days of the short sell would it trigger a wash sale? A wash “buy” perhaps?
I’m most concerned with being perpetually locked in/trapped by my losses in the original position.
