Why am I never beating the market?

So I have this odd conundrum where whenever days are Down I am usually beating the NASDAQ and generally the S&P (sometimes the DOW) but whenever days are up, I am never beating those. As an example, last friday I was only up 1%.

On a previous day when the market was acting volatile, I was beating the Indicies when it went down, but again, not as much when it went up.

I look at my portfolio and am puzzled. I own majority of large caps like APPLE, BX, Delta, Visa etc.. plus mid/small caps that have done well. I do relatively decent, but is it really a question of just owning these stocks that go up 10% in a day such as UPST, NVDA etc.. and just deal with it when they go down a lot?

I am getting seriously discouraged and may just go into index funds.
