The debt ceiling threat

As a novice investor, I am trying to learn more about the debt ceiling and its potential impact on the stock market. I understand that the debt ceiling is a limit set by the US government on the amount of debt it can incur, but I am not aware of any specific deadline at the moment.

I am curious to know if there is any historic data or past instances where the debt ceiling was challenged and if it had any correlation with a decline in the stock market, In that case when the threat started to affect the markets? I would also appreciate any insights or perspectives on the current situation.

I have noticed that Senator Tommy Tuberville has been buying Barrick Gold Corporation while other politicians are selling stocks, including Nancy Pelosi, Sydney Axeney, Kathy Manning, and others. I am wondering if there could be a connection between this and the debt ceiling, or if it is too early to draw any conclusions.

Thank you for your help and any information you can provide.
