Drawdowns Across the World
The last 12 months would have felt tough for heaps of people investing (they definitely did for me) so I was just curious about the index level performance of different countries major indices. Some stats:*
NASDAQ -22% (US tech mostly)
S&P 500 -16% (US)
Hang Seng -12% (Hong Kong)
Shanghai Composite -11% (China)
Nikkei -7% (Japan)
DAX -7% (Germany)
ASX 200 -3% (Australia)
Obviously these are averages and returns are weighted toward the larger stocks in the index so heaps of individual stocks in those indexes have fallen way more (like US smaller tech) but thought it was interesting.
Do the stats surprise you? Did you think the indexes would be down more with all the bad news we hear about inflation and rising costs of everything?
