Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to the stock investing scene. I'm 30 y.o., and I opened a Roth IRA just over a year ago. A family member suggested investing in numerous safe companies – you know, names no one has heard of like Apple, Microsoft, and Walmart.
Now my understanding is that one doesn't necessarily get involved with these companies because of the dividend – but rather growth. My question is, what price point am I looking for before eventually selling?? Currently, Walmart is $10 per share above where I bought it at, and I could make $100 tax-free profit right now to invest somewhere else if I wanted to, but where am I expecting this thing to go in the long run? I know its impossible to predict, but are we talking potential for one day this stock being worth $1000/share? Could it just as easily remain stagnant and float around this range for the next 10-15 years? I don't know.. I mean I'd hate to hold for 20 years only to basically break even because of inflation. I guess that's the gamble of the stock market??
