What exactly is Meta investing their money into? What is the future promise?
I mean, ok, they have Oculus and are working on what? The iPhone of VR headsets? Anyone can make a VR headset and you can bet that many others will. So it's not like they can confidently corner the headset market (and that's assuming people will buy them en masse to begin with).
Other than headsets, the “metaverse” is really just a generic term for any VR world on the internet. But again, where will Meta's edge be? Anyone can set up virtual conferences, travel, sports events, concerts, simulations like surgery/piloting/driving/etc. There will be thousands of VR platforms to choose from even if you DO have an Oculus headset.
So really, what is Meta's edge? Why are they spending all that money on developing tech that can't really be protected?
