I was trying to sell some of my BB stock I had 340 shares and I use etrade I clicked on view tax lots and i picked the ones i wanted to sell and I sold 120 shares between 5 lots the price reflected that Friday when I did it. Then Monday my cost average went back up and those tax lots i picked were back, before I sold I got the message
“Your account settings Indicate that you'd like to choose offsetting lots using the lot selector. If you do not select lots, First in, First out will be applied”
With that being said the lots I select were also the ones I bought early on and now the ones I most recently bought are gone so it did the opposite of what I want to try to claim some tax loss, also does the 3500 in tax loss you can claim a year only reflect gains on stocks or does it reflect across what you made in a year because I havnt made anything on stocks this year
