Why is the stock market more volatile in recent years?


I was looking at historical data, and before 2018 the SP500 mostly had 0.3%-0.6% swings, and it was uncommon to see anything above a 1% swing in a day. Around 2018 (and even more post 2020) the market got a lot more volatile, with 1%+ days being a regular occurrence.

Why do you think this is?
