In what ways could the achievement of sustained nuclear fission effect the energy market?

~CORRECTION: Sustained Nuclear Fusion, not fission.~

I'd imagine that it would slowly tank the energy sector due to it making the status quo methods borderline irrelevant in favor of whoever owns a sustained fission plant. Then again I've been wrong before
