Naturally and understandably, AMZN is often one of the big four recommended for a long-term hold – they are kings of their domain, and understandably so.
Buuuut – I just see a long term issue that not many seem to be worried about, and that’s the warehouse worker issue.
Internal memos acknowledge the issue that soon they will have no one to hire by about the 5 year mark in current warehouse locations, due to incredibly high turnover rate / people refusing to do the work. And as of yet, zero plans have been talked about to address this issue – be it making warehouses a more attractive place to work, or relocation (the latter of which doesn’t seem like much of an option as they are already optimally placed).
I know 5 years is an eternity in the stock market, so to speak – but this seems short sighted for a company that had a plan to wait almost 14 years to post a profit fitting it’s volume. And yes, they have cloud services and their entertainment division. But their retail sales are a massive part of their volume.
I am stating my feeling that a long-term hold on a company facing such a massive problem seems like a incalculable risk, and curious to hear what’s in the minds of others on this subject.
