Google Finance and Yahoo Finance (and many other financial websites) show Carvana's market cap as $8.86B but, on the trading platform I use (Thinkorswim), Carvana's market cap is shown as ~$4.8B. I checked Carvana's 10Q to check the number of outstanding shares the company has and, after calculating the company's market cap based its current stock price and number of outstanding shares, came up with a market cap of ~$4.8B.
That should be cased closed but I'm just curious because so many websites are quoting its market cap differently (something which I've never seen with any other company). I just checked Marketwatch and, sure enough, they have Carvana's market cap listed at $8.86B.
Is there a way of calculating market cap that I'm not aware of? Do some company's have “hidden outstanding shares” or something? Is Carvana's market cap really $8.86B? Thanks.
