What’s your favourite method for finding great stocks to invest in?

Lately the idea has stuck with me that you should think of stocks as the means to becoming a part owner of a company in order to support them. As Warren Buffet has said, you should try to find great companies with stocks at great prices.

So the IDEA is now in my head that I can start researching and hunting for companies that match my interests and entice me to give them some of my money for support.

But this gets a little difficult because it becomes a matter of searching for information that might not be easily accessible, and leaves me with many questions.

For example, should 90% of my research consist of sifting through their spendings/annual report to work out if they're making decent profit, giving back to the shareholders, and spending their money wisely? Is there really any way to work out if the CEO or another high-up is corrupt and will fuck over the company in the long-run? Can you learn about how a company functions other than what THEY provide on their website (which will obviously always be postively-biased) or new articles?

For companies like Amazon and Apple there would be an abundance of information available. They're billion dollar companies and they must be mostly transparent. But for smaller startup companies I feel as though information can be very sparse.

Is this where I must enter super-businessman mode and rock up in person to get a feel for how the company operates, and whether the staff are motivated to work, or if it's actually a shit company that no one wants to work at?

Don't get me wrong I'm super excited to start researching and support companies doing great things, I'm just very overwhelmed with where to start!
