Can I direct register the shares I have in every company I’m invested in? What would be the benefit?

With all I've read about GME fuckery, I've just lost faith in the market and I'm not sure I want anything I'm invested in to be used for any purpose other than for the benefit of myself and the companies I bought into. Can anyone discuss all this stuff with me, straight up explain the finer points or just direct me to some other resources to which I can go to learn myself? It's all just so complicated. Thanks
