The US Senate has passed the CHIPS Act

The bill still needs to be passed by the House, which will likely vote on it within days.

The CHIPS bill, short for Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors for America Act, would provide $54 billion in grants for semiconductor manufacturing and research, tens of billions to support regional technology hubs and a tax credit covering 25% of investments in semiconductor manufacturing through 2026.

The money is allocated over 5 years.

The tax credit is likely the thing most interesting to big semiconductor firms.

The funding is not limited to fabs but includes research, packaging, metrology, virtualization, supply chain improvements, and some DoD projects.
