All the time I will see headlines like: AAPL beats earnings expectations by 20%. Or GS beats earnings estimate of $6.61 per share at $7.32. Who is setting the “official” earnings estimate that we all go off of? I understand that it may be large institutions that make their own predictions, but who is, or who decides what is the official estimate per share that is actually reported on?
