The UK is full of dinosaur companies that offer absolutely no innovation at all. Compare the S&P500 or the Nasdaq which are bursting at the seams with innovation to the FTSE100 or FTSE250 and there's just no comparison at all. Why is the UK incapable of creating global tech companies like the US can?
It's like the US invents some amazing new technology, grows it for 10 – 20 years and then the UK and rest of the world is like “hmm that's some cool tech, shame it's already been invented”.
Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, Tesla, Adobe, Oracle, Salesforce, AMD, Paypal, Square etc etc I could go on endlessly. In fact I challenge you right now to think of a British company whose software / hardware you use… Go on try. In fact even me as a British person struggles to name UK tech companies, that's how bad it is.
So the question has to be asked, why does the UK find it so difficult to create tech companies? What is holding us back because it sure as shit isn't our education. We have 2 of the best universities in the world in our country. The world is becoming more and more tech based and the UK just isn't pulling it's weight, so the question has to be asked.. Why?!
