Counterpoint: The US is experiencing increasing political instability, meaning that you should still diversify internationally


Saw a hot post in this sub saying the US is the only market worth investing in. I would like to give two counterpoints to this opinion:

  • during the 1970s, 80s, 2000s, international markets out performed. So over the last 60 years, half of those decades international performed- during Americas “peak”

  • more importantly, political instability threatens the markets of this country. Going too far left, the US will begin to resemble Europe, which everyone in that thread praising the US said is stagnating. Too far right, and the US is going to end up shady like Russia and China. Two much back and forth we’re going to resemble LATAM or AFrica if it gets bad.

The US is the best country to invest in. Until it isn’t.

If you don’t put all your money in S&P 500 for diversification, you shouldn’t put all your money in the US for the same logic.
