I have a question regarding a Wash Sale:
Situation:
Lets say I own an individual stock that I have made multiple purchases on over the past 2 years
100 shares at $100 – Purchased on 10/19
100 shares at $80 – Purchased on 10/20
100 shares at $60 – Purchased on 6/22
Total = 300 shares $80 Average
The stock price is currently at $80 and I want to sell the oldest shares ( 100 shares @ $100 purchased on 10/19 ) for a $2000 loss.
This would bring my average share price down to $70 ( by keeping the 100 @ $80 + 100 @ $60 ).
The question I have is:
How long do I have to wait until I can sell the oldest shares if my last purchase was recently on 6/15/22. Is is 30 days from the last purchase? In the past I have sold shares and the difference in the sale was added to one of the newer lots and I am trying to avoid that this time so my average is $70.
