I did have about 100 ish shares of Tenneco ( my cost basis then was about 17.40) , I guess I sold 50 shares for a loss. But after we voted to have appollo buy tenneco for 20 a share, I bought shares back around 15 dollars a share.. I now own 1000 shares Tenneco.. but I have this wash sale.
I have read and seen videos about wash sales 30/31 day rule.. But i havent found anything on how to get rid of a wash sale.
So my question is.. are only 50 shares that I own a wash sale? How does that affect the rest of my investment? Is there anything I can do to get rid of the wash sale. Is it only 50 shares that are affected that you cant write off a loss on?
Im not sure the exact date when Tenneco / Appollo finish their deal, but it can be any time from now until end of year.. they said 2nd half of year.
I plan to keep buying shares when I can, when prices drops here and there. If I keep buying shares does it keep resetting my wash sale? How can I get rid of that wash sale, or do I really not need to worry about it? I linked an image to my purchases. ibb was acting slow so i did imgur as well
