Why do you people talk about how companies “return cash to the shareholders”?

Companies don’t even do this. I say “they don’t pay dividends, so they don’t return cash”. Then you say “yeah well that’s because they are reinvesting it back into the business”. Okay so why do you say they have in the past and present been returning cash to shareholders if they’re just throwing money back in to reinvest? When are they gonna reinvest? When? Huh? HUH?

BRK has never paid dividends. You say “well I’ve made money from the stock price going up”. Guess what, BRK doesn’t have any involvement in the stock price. You say that the stock price is based on fundamentals, so therefore BRK is involved with it. I agree with the fundamentals part, but the part about BRK being involved is a load of crap. The price is based on fundamentals only because investors THINK it is. You only make money off of selling BRK because other people are willing to buy from you.

All these beliefs are based on the tradition of the stock market and what gurus tell everyone, a huge placebo effect.

Look, I’m not saying the stock market is a bad way to make money because it’s not. All I’m saying is that it really shouldn’t be making you money but does anyways. So stop spreading lies about how companies return cash to shareholders. So at least describe it as it really is: a Ponzi Scheme where you only make money because you took it from some other fool.

I know my language sounds forceful and harsh but I really am curious about if anyone else has similar thoughts. And if you disagree, I would like to know why backed with evidence, not just reciting traditional phrases and “rules” like how buying a share is a piece of the profits, because I literally am arguing against that statement(and others like it). Once again, this is not an argument capitalism or greedy companies or whatever,I’m simply trying to start an intellectual nerdy discussion about economics.
