Beating the S&P 500 by 2.7%

So, I'm sitting on a 4.5% loss after a year. It's probably closer to 2x that since I was half in cash which about the last year. For the same period, the S&P 500 lost 11.7%.

Now, one year is hard to make a call about whether or not you should be investing your own money and losing less money doesn't necessarily mean you can make more money in an upturn, but wanted to get thoughts as to whether I should consider pulling my money out of individual stocks and invest in the indices?

Anything I should be asking myself or think about?
